Wellness Retreats in the City of Roses

As the year winds down and winter enters the bones, finding time to reflect and recharge can set a positive tone for the upcoming year.

Surrounded by lush nature, including rivers, forests, and mountains, Portland is home to a variety of wellness retreats, or wellness centers, where you can let go to peaceful escapes amidst the busy city life and holiday crush. From acupuncture, chiropractic, skincare and massage therapy to steaming saunas and baths, at these centers holistic wellness treatments and their practitioners stand ready to help you realign, soothe and heal.

No matter which of these and other treatments you may be seeking, the retreats or spas that provide them are conveniently located. In the winter months, saunas and hot water baths become especially inviting options — contributing warmth and health benefits like soothing tense muscles, improving circulation, and helping to clear skin and remove toxins from the body. It’s a simple yet effective way to settle in and feel better during this chilliest season. While you’re in Portland and its surrounding areas, be sure to visit some of these top wellness centers.

They started with soaking pools and saunas and invited wellness practitioners to join their mission. Over time, the center added hot tubs, a steam room, cold tubs, a social yard, and massage services.  The pool is perfect, the steam room is refreshing, and there are two saunas. One is tucked in the basement and feels like a cozy hobbit hole. There’s even a small tea house on-site with drinks and snacks.

To help guests enjoy their time, the center makes “tranquility necklaces” available. Wearing one shows others you’d like quiet time, which can be especially helpful in the evenings when things get lively. The Everett House has become a cherished spot for those seeking rest and connection. It’s an ideal place to enjoy a peaceful retreat or recharge in a tranquil setting.

Where to Stay

Portland Eco House

Portland Eco House Patio Villa

If wellness is a goal during your trip, the Portland Eco House is the centering, healing place to stay. It’s conveniently located near a variety of the wellness centers and retreats that pamper you with massages, saunas, soaking, wraps, facials, chiropractic and acupuncture, and nature-based healing.

After a day of relaxation or exploration, you can return to the peaceful atmosphere of the Portland Eco House. Choose from the stylish private Patio Cottage or Patio Suite, both with organic bedding and eco-friendly amenities or book the two combined as the Patio Villa. The location is just a short walk or drive from many of the city’s top wellness retreats. After a day of rejuvenating activities, decompress in the private patio by the fire pit. It’s a wellness cycle that refreshes and prepares you for the journey ahead. Ah, life couldn’t be better!

The Patio Cottage was as described and what I expected; I enjoyed my stay. The cottage is a cute studio with all the amenities you need in a neighborhood with incredible old trees – beautiful in the fall. The bed was comfortable and there was an extra blanket available tucked into the shelves at the foot of the bed.

I liked that I could unpack my suitcase and there were hangers and space ready to lay out some things.

There is a Natural Grocery store just blocks away and the neighborhood is very walkable and also nearby bus lines. The Alberta Street Co-op Grocery is a bit further into the Alberta neighborhood but it’s a lovely walk and a good spot to find bulk bins of small snacks for a weekend stay.
